Rear Airbox
Removing the rear airbox is actually quite simple. There are some 10mm bolts to remove – One on the front outside of the frame and two in the inside rear. Once you undo those bolts, we can start to manoeuvre everything out the way.
The wiring loom is fastened to the air box on the inside, so you need to remove the bolts to take the airbox out. Be careful not to split or break any wires. To remove the fuse box (and the boost sensor if you have one), there are two Philips screws to undo. Once the fuse box is off, the air box is free to be removed.
If you need to change the rear air filter, there is a Philips screw in the idle near the bottom on the outside. Undo this, lift the panel and then slide it out. When putting a new filter in, make sure you soak it in oil to prevent it from drying out and perishing.
Front Airbox
The front airbox can be a bit more work because there is a screw right underneath the yokes in the middle of the frame going straight up into the airbox, which can be difficult to get to. Once it’s out, many people leave it out (and fasten it using only the two rear bolts) to make it easier to do this work in the future.
Then you can remove the remaining components from the air box, including the throttle cable and the fuel receiver. These can be removed with a Philips screwdriver – there are four screws holding in the tank bracket, and then there are 2 screws on the top of air box which holds the throttle cable. Make sure you keep all these screws safe and organised as you’ll need them all when reassembling.
If you ever need to change the front air filter, there are three small clips on the top that you just pop out and up so you can remove the top cover of the airbox. It can be quite fiddly with all the wires around, so be careful not to snap any of those clips. When putting a new filter in, make sure you soak it in oil to prevent it from drying out and perishing.
To remove the airbox, there is a Philips screw holding the airbox to the frame in the centre at the bottom – Undo that and manoeuvre the airbox out.
