Footplates and exhaust

This section may not be applicable to you, depending on modifications.

Once you’ve jacked up the bike and strapped it on to the jack, you’ll see that there are a set of four bolts at each fixing point on the footplate frame. Remove all the bolts and slide the exhaust out.

Remove the blanking plate on the back of the speedo and remove the speedo cable with a 17mm spanner. Underneath the blanking plate you’ll see two sets of wires. One supplies the backlight for the speedo, and the other supplies the control board on the front. Also under the blanking plate there are two bolts securing the speedo to the frame – You can undo these using a 10mm spanner. Once these are out, the speedo and controls can all be lifted out.

The speedo cable runs all the way down the front fork and into the tyre spindle. Loosen this using a set of mole grips, move the sleeve and then pop it out. When reconnecting, make sure you line the speedo cable up correctly or your speedo won’t work – it will only go in one way. Once this is disconnected, feed it up through the frame (you cannot feed it down as the 17mm nut is too big to pass through the yoke).
